17 Prevailing Wage Rate Laws Seminar 8:00–11:30 am, AGC Center, Wilsonville. Have you heard about all the new stimulus projects and would like to take advantage of the opportunities, but you don’t understand the prevailing wage rate (PWR) laws? Now is your chance to find out! This session, given by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, will focus on the responsibilities contractors have on public works projects, including public works bonds, which hourly rates need to be paid to whom, which forms are required to be completed, and when workers must be paid overtime. Learn how to stay in compliance with the PWR laws to avoid costly mistakes, and receive reference materials to help you in the future. Earn three continuing education units for your CCB license. 31 MSHA Contractor Workshop 8:30–10:30 am, AGC Center, Wilsonville. Do you have contractors working at your mine site? If so, please inform them of this free informational meeting designed to better educate, organize, and prepare them to meet the compliance requirements of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). The meeting will be conducted by the Small Mines Division of MSHA.Discussion will be approximately 1–1 ½ hours. Contractors will then be given a comprehensive binder and assisted individually by one of the small mines staff; they will review the binder and assist with any other needs. 21–23 AGCA Safety Management Training Course Philadelphia, Penn. The AGC Safety Management Training Course (SMTC) provides attendees three days of training on the basic skills needed to manage a company safety program in the construction industry. The program builds on Focus Four training and prepares attendees to manage key safety issues on the job site and provides techniques for delivering basic safety training to field personnel. Participants will receive intensive instruction and training that will allow them to return to their firms with readily applicable new skills to positively impact their company’s safety and health program.
Topics covered include: OSHA inspections, subcontractors & multi–employer relations; job safety analysis; equipment management; steel erection safety; electrical safety management; accident investigation; excavation management; concrete safety; fall protection management; and bi–lingual issues. 22–23 Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Conference: Fork in the Road? Choose Safety Eagle Crest Resort, Redmond, Ore. The Central Oregon Safety and Health Association and Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, encourage workers and employers to attend the conference to help improve safety and health performance. Transforming the workplace safety culture can help organizations reduce injuries and accidents, and decrease workers’ compensation costs. Some of the topics featured at this year’s conference include: safety committees and safety meetings, hazard communication, winter driving tips, and waste management and recycling certification. Registration for the event is $125, with optional pre-conference workshops for $40. The Waste Management and Recycling certification workshop is $75. 23–25 CLC National Working Weekend Kansas City, Missouri. This year’s annual event for mid-career professionals promises to be our best ever, with great speakers, social networking opportunities, and two jobsite tours – both a groundbreaking performing arts center and an iconic bridge. The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) National Working Weekend is designed to connect AGC’s mid-career professionals from across the nation. The purpose of the CLC is to act as a conduit for participants to network and exchange ideas about work and the industry while continuing to develop their professional and leadership skills. 18–20 2010 AGCA Training & Development Conference & HR Professionals Conference Scottsdale, Arizona. Last year, the conferences were held concurrently with many overlapping sessions. This year, the conferences will have one full day of sessions each, plus one joint plenary session, along with several opportunities for participants at both conferences to network socially. This adjustment will allow participants to attend each or both conferences, without having to choose between HR and T&D sessions. As many budgets are still financially strained, and to assist our chapters and member companies who would like to send two or more participants, a discount will be available for those who choose to attend both conferences. The bowl-a-thon is open to all skill levels. Out strike, out spare, out gutter the competition and your team could win one of the following prizes: first, second, and third highest team scores, lowest team score, and the team with the most gutter balls.
