From the Mouths of Auction Winners...
I was the highest bidder for the Elk
Hunting Experience offered by Dale Campbell and
Jay Minor. The setting is at their LBH Ranch
near Monument, Oregon, on the breaks of the John
Day River. I was stirred to make this investment
by the rave reviews given by Jim Hirte who
bought this opportunity at the auction five
years ago. I must admit, although somewhat
reluctantly, that my expectations were exceeded
by the reality. The reluctance comes from
creating too much interest in this opportunity
going forward
–
not leaving an opportunity to win this
experience again.
My success in tagging a bull elk on each
outing is a part of what endears this adventure
to me; frankly speaking I would have been almost
as satisfied without having fired a shot. As
most elk hunters know, there is a high degree of
randomness in close encounters of the shooting
kind when it comes to the topic of bull elk.
What sets this adventure apart are:
A) The people that you interact with on the hunt
– you will
not find any more gracious hosts than Dale and
Jay. You will also meet and get too know a
number of other local citizens who are really
great human beings.
B) The accommodations
–
the housing is first class and right in the
middle of the hunt.
C) The scenery
–
the deep eroded canyons set apart by the barren
flat topped ridges offer unending vistas into
the handiwork of mother nature’s artistry.
D) The style of the hunt
– the
story here is long, but suffice it to say, this
elk hunt will be different than any you have
ever experienced!
E) The expectation of result
–
it is related to previous point, but you know
how if you have not seen animals on opening
morning of elk season there is a sense that the
season is done and that the rest of this season
will be just going through the motions, well
here it’s different
– it seems
“elky” whenever you are out. Most of the elk
taken have been late season.
F) The presentation
–
the food is flat out awesome!
G) The work
–
this is not a drive around until you see 'em and
then shoot 'em experience. You must be engaged
and attuned to be successful.
I could not be more satisfied with my
investment. Larry Sitz,
Emerick Construction Company
